Slim-L Printer: A Smarter and Slimmer Printing Device

Revolutionizing the Way We Print

The Slim-L Printer, designed by Hongik University students, offers a new approach to printing by utilizing dead space underneath the desk. This innovative design not only saves valuable desk space but also provides better convenience for users.

The typical printer takes up a significant amount of space on a desk due to its bulky body. Additionally, it is often placed far from its users, requiring them to physically approach the printer whenever they need to use it. In contrast, the Slim-L Printer breaks away from this traditional design by adopting the shape of the letter 'L' and hanging underneath the desk. By utilizing the dead space under the desk, it effectively optimizes space occupation.

One of the key strengths of the Slim-L Printer is its proximity to the user. Unlike conventional printers that are placed on desks, floors, or shelves, this innovative design is positioned close to the user, providing better convenience and a more intuitive user experience. The 'L' shaped frame naturally delivers the printout to the user when printing is done, making it easily accessible for anyone in a desk environment.

The manufacturing process of the Slim-L Printer involves extruding aluminum alloy to create the base body frame. This method simplifies the production process and minimizes waste. The use of aluminum frames, known for their durability, allows manufacturers to create a stronger and slimmer printer at a minimal cost.

With dimensions of 250mm x 319mm x 105mm, the Slim-L Printer is designed to fit seamlessly underneath any desk. It features fastening parts on the top for easy attachment, ensuring a hassle-free installation process.

By reimagining the traditional printer and utilizing the often overlooked space underneath the desk, the Slim-L Printer offers a fresh perspective on printing. Its sleek design, convenient positioning, and efficient use of space make it a standout choice for those seeking a smarter and slimmer printing device.

The Slim-L Printer project was initiated in October 2016 and completed in January 2017 in Seoul. Extensive research on the growing trend of smaller living spaces and the need for more compact household appliances influenced the design. The Slim-L Printer was created to provide a better desk environment for users and cater to the increasing demand for simpler and slimmer home appliances.

The Slim-L Printer, designed by Youngtae Cha, Chanbin Park, Seokyeong Lee, and Yeahee Ku, has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Digital and Electronic Device Design category in 2018. This prestigious award acknowledges the practicality, innovation, and professional quality of the Slim-L Printer, making it a valuable addition to the world of printing technology.
